Introducting Range Theory

Range Theory is built on the notion that a movement is perfected by exploring its variations, not just monotonous repetition. Our mission is to create high-quality training equipment that serves this idea by making athletes learn through feel.

While our solutions are aimed at ambitious runners, athletes with any sports background can benefit from using our equipment to explore the possibilities of their discipline.

Range Theory is born in Lund, Sweden, and supported by LU Innovation.

The founder: Lucas Starkloff

"I'm an ultra marathon runner and coach. As a child I competed in biathlon, football, and later table tennis at the Pierre de Coubertin Gymnasium in Erfurt, a special school for sports. There, I also gained first coaching experience as table tennis instructor for multiple clubs and the Thüringer Table Tennis Association (TTTV).

Since I started running regularly during the Covid pandemic, I saw great benefits in adapting and using the same approaches I practiced in other sports. Most effectively, elements of Differential Learning helped me to spot areas of improvement, steer the inevitable injury risks of a runner, and never let training become monotonous.

During the past year I officially finished the Eiger E51, a marathon, three half marathons (two on trail) and two Hyrox doubles races. While there's much more to come, I want to share my experiences through creating training equipment that lets athletes explore their full range of possibilities in the most effective way possible."

Rooted in a fast-paced, highly technical sport

"On a high level, table tennis leaves no room for error, demanding a solid technique and great versatility, executed within milliseconds.

After playing table tennis competitively for more than ten years, I became a licensed coach for children and adults. I soon realised that only giving instructions and showing the intended movements didn't lead to fast progress. Instead, players improved much more rapidly when feeling different variations based on set goals.

A player didn't move fast enough?
We used downwards- and sidewards-resistance to force activation.

A player played shots too high over the net?
We made them explore height variations to feel the differences.

A player moved to far from the table in open play?
We set a boundary to keep them close.

All these approaches made the player feel the intended correction - either through exploring the whole range of variations, or forcing one of them."
